Peripheral Vision
In my peripheral vision everyone is you
My heart skips and then beats faster for just one moment
Until my brain catches up
Until reality comes into focus
Sometimes the whiplash of that instant cuts me
All I really have to hold on to is the music of the moment and the feeling
When the sound and all the other senses combine
They form a perfect symphony
A crescendo of wind and heat and the smell of anticipation
All I have to hold onto is that
My secret skipping heart, something all my own
Not to be taken away by life itself
Craving more is all I can admit to
Needing it for my sanity, my hope
Next time it might really be you.
