The Cliffs Of Moher

The Cliffs Of Moher

Blue sky breaks across the Cliffs
Just as we come upon them
And the sun shines through the perpetual rain,
Greening the grass as I look out on it.
I eye a spot on high and travel up
To my left, a fence and some cows,
To my right are crashing ocean waves
Beating on the western coast of Ireland
Hundreds of feet below.

Soon I am at the top and gazing out.
I can’t bring myself closer to the edge
As a fear wells up inside of me.
It is not a fear of heights, but a fear of real danger.
So I lean on a stone and slowly slide down it’s weathered edge to sit.
I put down my pack and take out my pen to write.

As I finger the paper in my hands I feel gravity.
It’s the weight of the moment and my place in it.
In the distance there is nothing known,
Nothing and every thing to discover.
I feel I have come so very far already
But this moment makes that distance seem so small.
It provides a new perspective
And I realize that this is just the start of my journey.

When we leave, the sky grows dark once again
As if to call the moment to a proper close.
The green hills are shrouded in grey mist
and this place is etched in my heart forever.
A piece of who I am now, as I continue on…

  1. I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was good. I do not know who you are but certainly you’re going to a famous blogger if you aren’t already 😉 Cheers!
